Request for help with article #622

Description

@resonantspectrum

I'm writing an article on the challenges of developing open source software libraries for robots, and would like to include Gazebo. Could someone on the project set up an interview with me? I use the email address aoram@lpi.org.

This article will be for the Linux Professional Institute, which offers certifications on free and open source software. We like to publicize interesting topics in this area. In some ways, robotics projects are just like other software projects, so I'm interested in highlighting the special challenges and opportunities in robotics. My guess is that there's useful material in the following questions:

  • How do software robotics projects deal with the huge differences between types of robots they need to support (in purpose, size, motion, sensors, etc.)?

  • How do the developers and users of software robotics projects obtain the hardware to test on? (I assume that you can't complete a project depending just on simulators.)

I'm also happy to talk about other issues and about the history of your project.
