One HX8357D display works, but not another; Adafruit GFX works on both

Here is an interesting one...

ESP32 S3 Mini with Adafruit 2050 3.5" LCD based on HX8357D.

TFT_eSPI works fine on two instances of the display, but white screen of death on the other.

However, Adafruit GFX works fine on all instances of the display.

Displays plugged into the same PCB w/ESP 32.

Any thoughts?
